At Action for Animals Maine will always do our best to help you find care for your pets. If we can’t help you, we can provide information and connect you to the appropriate resources for your situation.
We can also provide pet food in emergency situations. We have a list of pet food pantries in Maine and veterinary medicine support groups.

Medical Assistance and Emergencies
- Brown Dog Foundation
- Allocates financial resources first to pets whose life is in near-immediate danger and whose “gap” the organization’s on-hand resources can cover. Can also offer educational guidance and referral to lower cost treatment alternatives, creative payment alternatives and / or other programs to help individuals in need.

- Dogs on Deployment
- Veterinary Assistance Program (VAP) offers financial grants to help cover emergency veterinary expenses for military pets in need of urgent care.
- Operation Pet Wellness (OPW) provides free and discounted spay/neuter surgeries, vaccinations, and microchipping for military pets through a nationwide voucher program. Military pet owners can use these vouchers at participating clinics or with their local veterinarian.

- Falmouth Vet Hospital Mainely Pets Foundation
- Assists pets, pet owners, and pet caregivers in Maine who are experiencing trauma or financial need, from assisting with sick or injured pets to helping pet caregivers experiencing personal catastrophe such as a home or barn fire.

- Provides financial assistance throughout the United States to those who cannot afford the illness or injury treatment for their dog or cat regardless of age, breed, or diagnosis. Financial assistance is provided for the treatment of non-routine veterinary care, including medication, insulin, Heartworm positive treatment and medical equipment.

- Assists pet owners who are temporarily displaced and need a safe place for their pet to stay while they secure permanent housing. The Stay@Home Program provides other services, such as canine behavioral assistance and a list of pet food and supplies in the surrounding area.
